European March
2009, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) domestic contract prices settled €20/tonne
($27/tonne) up on firmer feedstock in the first quarter.
While the marginal increases were a sign of slight recovery
in the long-suffering PVC market, increases of €20/tonne were far from the
initial targets of €50-80/tonne from producers at the beginning of march 2009.
The majority of regions in
northwest Europe were now pegged at a gross range of €700-730/tonne.
However, this upwards movement was not apparent in Germany, where
the size and location of larger converters in the area had worked against
the sellers. German PVC price was confirmed at a rollover of €680-710/tonne.
